Ok, I finished screwing the tops together and attached them with hinges. It was, after all, a rather simple construction project. The hard part was figuring out what we wanted. What we got was probably a lot bigger than we'll need, but we'll have one hell of a garden in 2 years, I guarantee. In the meantime (while we're not using one side) we can store pots, diggers, hoses and the like in that part.

And it's tucked away in the back of the yard near the parking area ... now I know where I'm going to plant all of those extra hollyhocks-- IN FRONT of the bin!

That is really nice and unlike ours, which is wire fencing, you wouldn't know that it was a compost bin.
Good info.. I find it pretty easy to compost once you are in the mindset that a lot of the fruit and vegetables you discard could easily be added to a compost box.
I created my compost bin from discarded 3x3 pallets. They worked out pretty well.
If anyone is interested, I added the steps and pictures of the process.

Happy Composting!
This is beautiful! I am envious.
I just got a second big black "Earth Machine" which just isn't as classy as what you have. But hey, both mine were out of someone else's trash so I can't complain...
Hey, we recycle a lot of stuff around here. Nothing wrong with turning trash into something useful.
I just wasn't finding anything else cost effective, and that looked OK, and DW was hankerin' to build something.

Nice job on the bin! Keep up the good work. We compost all our kitchen waste and it is amazing how much there is just for two people.
Porch Days,
It is amazing. I call composting "nefarious". If you think on it, you're essentially "stealing" nitrogen and nutrients from all over the world. Granted, it would otherwise have gone down the drain or into a landfill, but still, it's yours now!
I figured we'll get 40lbs of coffee grounds alone composted this year.
Question: Whats the best thing to store kitchen waste in before it goes into the bin?
